Camino Photo of the Day: a Cab to Roncesvalles
From Madrid, I took an early morning bus to Pamplona. My plan from here was to take a bus or share a cab to Saint-Jean. Unfortunately, there had been a blizzard in the Pyrenees the week before, and the passes were impassible. I would have to start on the Spanish side of the mountains instead.
I just missed the bus to Roncesvalles, and the next one wouldn’t be until 6pm the next day. Cab it is! Weirdly, I couldn’t find anybody at the Pamplona bus station going my way, so I hired a cab by myself.
They say that Italian drivers are the craziest, but they’ve got nothing on Spanish cab drivers. This man, very polite and chatty, sped through the rain, taking the crazy mountain hair-pin turns at top speed. By the time I saw this scene through the front window, I was ready for a drink.
This was my first photo in Spain.
