Camino Photo of the Day: San Juan Bautista de Obanos
As we walked through Obanos, we passed by the parish church of San Juan Bautista. It was locked up, as it was on my last Camino. But then – wonder of wonders! – the sacristan came by and opened the church for us. Although it looks medieval – and indeed the portico arches and some of the decorative stonework are salvaged from an earlier church – this neo-Gothic structure was only built in 1912. Inside, it’s much easier to tell, as much of the interior is covered in white square tiles that look like they could have come from a kitchen.
