Camino Primitivo: Higher and Deeper
Cool and drizzly morning. We started late, as today was to be a short day. Breakfast in the albergue, followed by a trip to the post office to send forward my uneeded gear.
Forgot to set the tracker until we were over an hour out of Tineo.
A long steady uphill through forests overlooking steep hillside pastures. We passed a large group of school children with their teachers, and they gave Francine an ovation as she passed. They were all extremely friendly and encouraging.
We are very clearly in the mountains now, and we continue to climb.
I took a short detour to visit the ruined monastery of Santa María La Real de Obona, while the rest of our little Camino family pressed ahead.
I was blessed to run into the school group again, visiting this normally locked monastery church. The instructor had the key and allowed me to come inside and visit and pray.
O Lord, who sees all things
And knows all hearts,
Grant me the grace of clear vision
To discern where you are leading me,
And to follow where you lead,
So that I might fulfill the task
You have set for me and no other,
That I may serve your people
And your Church
With the talents and skills
You have bestowed upon me.
I caught up with the rest of our group in the town of Campiello. We had lunch and shopped for groceries. Tomorrow will be a long day without any support services whatsoever, so we need to bring plenty of food and water to keep us going.
Tonight we are sleeping in a lovely and tiny albergue in the mountain village of Borres. But first, Francine cooked us dinner in the tiny kitchen here. We will head over to the local café/bar for dessert and to mingle with the other pilgrims here in the village.
