Drinking Beer and Marking Time

This article from Crux caught my eye. What better way to support the homeless Monks of Norcia than to buy their beer?

Suds and solidarity: Buying Benedictine beer helps rebuild basilica

ROME – The Latin-liturgy chanting, beer-brewing Benedictine monks of Norcia, Italy, the birthplace of St. Benedict, are living and praying in temporary structures after an earthquake in August damaged their buildings and a big quake in late October razed their basilica, except for the facade.

The monks have not been able to brew beer since before the summer quake, but in a newsletter to supporters in mid-December, they reported that bottles shipped earlier to the United States are available for Christmas gift giving. Their U.S. online store has all the details.

The purchase of beer will help the monks rebuild and will help the devastated town of Norcia.

Their online store is up and operating!

These same monks have an amazing CD of chant, which is well worth purchasing as well. Click on the image to order.

Finally, every year, these monks put out a great wall calendar – I’ve had one for the last several years. Due to the disruption caused by the earthquakes, they are unable to print one this year.

Instead, you can download the PDF for free and print it yourself!

I hear tell that it’s best done on 11×17 inch paper.

Here’s the link: CALENDAR!

If you download their calendar and use it, you might consider putting a few coins in their collection box here: DONATE!
