Francis Cardinal George (1937 – 2015)
I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.
Francis Cardinal George, OMI
Archbishop of Chicago
Cardinal George, Archbishop Emeritus of Chicago, died today of cancer. He was 78.
There’s a lot you could say about Cardinal George, and I have no doubt that the Catholic blogoshpere is melting down with information even as we speak.
Here are just a few:
Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine
Et lux perpetua luceat eis:
Requiescant in pace. Amen.
Father Barron chimes in with a long thoughtful essay of the man he calls “a spiritual father to me”.
