Practice and Celebration

This weekend we’re having what we call a “churchy” weekend. In just a few hours, I’m heading over to the parish to run a morning training for new and transferring Altar Servers.

ServersAfter lunch, rehearsals for the Corpus Christi Mass and Procession begin.

In the church today, we’re also hosting some youth pilgrims coming to the Holy Door, Adoration, Benediction, and Mass.

Tomorrow, the Mass and Eucharistic procession through the streets of Tacoma.

Why all the practice and rehearsal?

Well, it takes a lot of coordination and drill to make something look natural and effortless, particularly when you have a large number of people involved. The very last thing we want to do is to distract people from their worship with a lot of collisions and fumbling around.

And of course, at my parish we celebrate the Corpus Christi Masses ad Orientem. Since we do this somewhat infrequently, a refresher is definitely in order!
