Saint Joan
On this day in 1431, Saint Joan of Arc was burned at the stake by the English at the age of 19. I’ve written about Saint Joan before, here and here, and I’m not going to go over old ground today.
I‘m simply going to say that in this, the 600th year since her birth, we do well to remember Saint Joan and to meditate on the reality that nothing is impossible with God.
Called by the Lord to defend her fatherland, [Joan] responds to her vocation with an enterprise that the entire world – and herself, in the first place – considered impossible; but that which is impossible to men is always possible with the help of God.
(Pope Saint Pius X, Address of 13 December 1908)
Saint Joan, pray for us, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
