Silence

During Lent, I am reading the Desert Fathers. On occasion I will post sayings that strike me during my Lectio.

Yesterday I also received my pre-ordered copy of Pope Benedict’s new book, Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week: From the Entrance Into Jerusalem To The Resurrection, and I’m devouring it. I may have to back up and re-read properly when I’m done.

Meanwhile, on with Abba Isidure…

Abba Isidure of Pelusia said, “To live without speaking is better than to speak without living. For the former lives properly and does good even by his silence, but the latter does no good even when he speaks. When words and life correspond to one another, they are together the whole of philosophy.”
