Chant on the Vigil: Vespers for the Feast of Saint James
The Cathedral of Santiago has published a booklet (available in PDF) for first Vespers of the feast of Saint James the Apostle. First Vespers only occur for Solemnities, and they are prayed on the Vigil. For most of the world, Saint James only has a feast, but in places where he is patron saint – such as Spain or the Archdiocese of Seattle – this is raised to the rank of a Solemnity.
The booklet contains the Latin chant for the Ordinary Form Liturgy of the Hours, with translations helpfully provided into Spanish. The booklet may be downloaded here: Libreto Vísperas Solemnes. Just in case, here’s an alternate link.
Meanwhile, here’s a video with the beautiful and haunting Vespers for Saint James chanted from the version given in the Codex Calixtinus. Neither Ordinary nor Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, but rather from the Mozarabic Rite in Latin.
