Zubiri in the Rain

Yesterday was warm and sunny. Today we started with rain that soon became a day-long downpour. A very cold downpour. Ponchos came out at second breakfast in Bar Fronton in Burguete. Despite hail and freezing rain, we made very good time in the morning, lunching in Biskaretta. We even stopped by Corazón Puro to say hi to István and Barbara, but alas – nobody was home.

We briefly ran into Matthias at lunch, but he was soon off. Penny soon walked in – still sans pack – and we walked the afternoon with her, eventually meeting up with Billy and Becky as well.

The ten or so kilometers from Biskaretta to Zubiri was difficult – though not so much as yesterday! The last bit was a long, difficult goat path of sharp rocks, mud, and flowing water down, down, down into the town.

Together the five of us crossed the “Rabies Bridge” (Puente de la Rabia) into Zubiri at about 5:00 pm.

Francine and I are staying in the same albergue that I stayed in back in 2013. Lovely dinner with Becky and Penny. Francine and I split a bottle of wine.

It’s still pouring rain, and everything we own is wet.

Photos of the day may be found by following the link in the side bar.
