A Day in Oviedo
Today we’re spending the day in the beautiful and delightful city of Oviedo. Sunday Mass at the cathedral – a stunning and majestic edifice constructed over the course of eight centuries. Somehow the succession of different architectural styles of the centuries blend into a harmonious whole.
For breakfast I indulged in my typical Camino breakfast of café con leche and a type of chocolate croissant, which in Spain is called a Napolitana.
We walked around and explored the old city center, eventually settling in at an outdoor café for lunch. The city is an absolute delight, though it tilted the scales by having a festival today, complete with parades, music, and people dancing in the plazas. The festival apparently celebrates a successful uprising against the occupying French in 1808.
It’s siesta now in the heat of the day, so we’ve returned to the hotel to do our laundry and ready our packs for tomorrow’s walk.
This evening’s quest will be to obtain our first stamps on our pilgrim passports.

I really like the fancy drumsticks that a few of the drummers had in the video.
