A Hot Time
23 April
On paper, this should have been our easiest day. Unfortunately, a heatwave hit.
We arrived in Ponferrada in good shape and good time, but there we found the old Templar castle. We waited until it opened at 11, and we spent over an hour exploring both the castle and its collection of medieval manuscripts.
Not to mention the basilica…
So now we were hopelessly behind schedule and walking in the full heat of the day – 27C.
It was kind of horrible. We took frequent breaks and didn’t arrive in Cacabelos until nearly 7pm, crabby and exhausted.
We see some old Camino friends there, which was very nice; Santiago from Columbia and Radek from Poland.
There she is, “on the trek”.
Looks like fun and hard work.
Best wishes! Gayle
Well, the Lord knew enough to walk in the cool of the day, but I suppose pilgrims in this fallen world cannot afford to wait until the weather is a Goldiloxian “just right.”
