Camino Photo of the Day: a Lovely Day for a Walk, and a Lousy Hill
This particular stretch of the Camino is a gently undulating terrain, but just a little further on there’s a bit called Alto do Poio, which I think might translate into something like “lousy hill”. This was a crazy bit of hill, so steep and full of boulders that at some points I was on all fours scrambling up the slope. When she got to the top, Francine turned around and gestured to the slope in a way both energetic and angry. A moment I will treasure. At the very top, there was a café doing a brisk business in cold drinks. Sadly, I think in subsequent years the hill has been regraded into more gentle switchbacks.
