Camino Photo of the Day: a Pair of Pilgrims

I think every pilgrim walking through Villalcáza takes this photo. I know Francine certainly did in 2016. It’s pretty clear we’re struggling in the heat – I’m wearing shorts! This statue, dedicated to longtime hospitalero Pablo Payo Pérez (1920-2003), is directly across from the Iglesia de Santa María la Blanca. It’s also right next to the café where Eamon and I bought colas and sat awhile trying to determine our plans for the rest of the day. By this time, it was past 3pm. Despite the time and the heat, we decided to push on. It was better, we thought, to hit that long stretch after Carrión de los Condes first thing in the morning.
