Camino Photo of the Day: Albergue Arroyo de San Bol
San Bol might just be my favourite albergue. Certainly, it is in the top five. It is an old bodega on the site of a thousand-year-old Roman spa in the middle of nowhere, converted into an albergue decades ago. It has enjoyed quite a checkered history – at one point, it was apparently owned by Jamaican Rastafarians. Nowadays, it’s run by some folks from nearby Hontanas. It sleeps 12 and it’s rustic. There’s no laundry, no Internet, no restaurant, no town. The showers and toilets were installed in 2011, and they recently got solar panels, so there’s electricity. Luxury!

Place: Arroyo de San Bol (Castilla y León, Spain)
Today’s map:
It was cold as heck. There’s one bathroom for 12 people. But the food and the camraderie is what makes this place the gem it is. There’s nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING anywhere else around for kilometeres.
It was a balm. There were enough corners for being quiet and contemplative or areas to be social and hangout… like on the floor of the bunk room where the tile was heated.
