Camino Photo of the Day: and then You Look Up…
Raising your eyes from the door to its covering arch, you are overwhelmed by this image of Christ being lowered from the Cross. The level of detail is stunning, and for as long as I looked at it, I kept finding new things. It’s an unusual image to be so prominent, but it tells a compelling story. It’s as if we’re being asked, “God is dead. Now what are you going to do?”
What I find most curious is this: he door is surrounded by images of the Passion, and here above is this image of the dead Christ being taken down, but nowhere in this entryway is there an image of Christ hanging on the Cross. It’s as if that moment is being withheld from us, prompting us to go within the Church itself to suss out the mystery.
