Camino Photo of the Day: By Bus and By Train

Today’s photo isn’t a photo – it’s a map. You’ll have to click through to see the full size. It occurs to me that I’ve not been particularly clear about the length of our “cheats” on our 2016 Camino. The map below shows the route we took in blue crayon. I have indicated where we took bus and train. The rest, we walked.

As I’ve discussed elsewhere, northern central Spain had hundred-year rains in 2016, and we suffered the consequences – mud and flood and injury. Several times, what should have been two-day stretches of the Camino took us three days. Since we had time constraints – the return flight day wasn’t going to be changing – we simply had to make up for lost days and adjust for our reduced pace.

April 20 was our final “cheat”, as we took the bus from León to the village of Hospital de Órbigo, a distance of about 30 km. I am determined to someday walk the entire Camino Francés.

Date: 20 April 2016
Place: León → Hospital de Órbigo (Castilla y León, Spain)
