Camino Photo of the Day: Carlos in Burgos
This slightly blurry photo is our friend and fellow pilgrim Carlos from Brazil. I met him on my first day, where he was giving honey to everyone he met – because “Brazilian bees make the best honey!” This photo illustrates some important things about Burgos and the Camino. That look on his face is a pretty typical pilgrim expression: exhausted. Note also the name of the restaurant: Las Espuelas del Cid “the spurs of el Cid”. The place very much had a medieval theme – you could even get “medieval” food if you liked. And if you don’t know the story of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, as recounted in the medieval epic El Cid, go read it now. His tomb is in the cathedral in Burgos. I imagine in the course of his career, el Cid had this expression on his face many, many times.
