Camino Photo of the Day: Carrión at Last and a Catastrophic Failure of Footwear

The end of my longest Camino day – something like 33km – is finally in sight! After the eternal final 6km, Eamon and I arrive in the town of Carrión de los Condes. This place has been inhabited since at least Paleolithic times, with the Celto-Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, and Moors at various times living here. Despite the plethora of history in the area, at the time I was most concerned about my shoes. I had blown out the heels on both shoes, and now my socks had holes in the heels as well. I described it in my journal as a “catastrophic failure of footware” (sic). Fortunately, Eamon was pretty sure there was an outfitter here.
