Camino Photo of the Day: Cementerio

On my map, this cemetery is designated “Cementerio portada S. XIII”. The gate that you see here indeed comes from the thirteenth century, but it wasn’t always a gate. These stones were originally part of the medieval hostal San Juan de Acre, which we passed on the other side of Navarrete yesterday. These particular stones were part of the façade of the attached church, and in 1887 they were moved here. The architecture is proto-Gothic, but as you’ll see tomorrow, the capitals are very Romanesque.
