Camino Photo of the Day: Family

Somewhere past the ruin of San Miguel, the Camino joins up with a narrow paved road. Trees line the way, providing some small relief from the heat. I imagine they’re even better in the summer when they have leaves! One of the things that I love about the Camino is meeting people from all over the world. And you keep meeting them, day after day, walking and talking with them. You come to share an intense bond, becoming members of the same Camino family. Here’s one member of our family. Not only does he have the same backpack that I carried, his name is Santiago. Not a name you could forget on the Camino! Originally from Columbia, he had immigrated to the United States and worked a restaurant kitchen in New York City. This is one of my favourite photos of him. I haven’t seen him since 2013, but Santiago, I miss you, brother.
