Camino Photo of the Day: Forest and Meadow
While the Camino route from Figeac to Rocamadour is these days classed as an “alternate” route, in earlier centuries, it was not. Rocamadour was a “can’t miss” site for medieval pilgrims. I continued walking on an asphalt road through the woods under a beautiful canopy of trees. Occasionally, I would catch glimpses of a stream off to my left and pass small meadows, like this one, with or without cows. And though it’s hard to tell here, the whole day’s walk was a gradual (and sometimes not so gradual) climb as I ascended up to the Causse de Gramat, a limestone plateau.

Maps!
The site I’ve been using for my daily maps, Gronze.com, while otherwise great, unfortunately doesn’t have maps for this variant. So here’s a map from my book Practical Pilgrimage showing the entirety of the three main variants and larger sub-variants. I walked the GR6 from Figeac to Rocamadour and the GR46 on to Cahors.
