Camino Photo of the Day: Headless Statues – and a Bonus!
Although I took many photos of the delightful monastic cloister at Santa María la Real in Nájera, for some reason all of them were blurry. This is, I think, the best. If you look closely at the statues along both sides, you will see that many are headless. As a bonus (by way of apologizing for the lack of posting the past few days) I’ve enclosed a second photo of the sign which helps explain why that is. What it doesn’t tell you is that after the Disentailment, the government turned the monastery into a prison, and the guards amused themselves by shooting the heads off the statues.
