Camino Photo of the Day: Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Calle
This church of Our Lady of the Street (or perhaps “of the Way”) is, perhaps fittingly, located on Calle Major in the small town of Redecilla del Camino. The Calle Major itself is in fact the route of the Camino through the town, and may have been (re)paved by Santo Domingo. The town itself dates to sometime before the ninth century, though the present church was substantially rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries (with some 20th century fixtures thrown in). However, there is one bit of astonishing Romanesque art. More on that tomorrow!
