Camino Photo of the Day: Irexia de Santa María de Ferreiros

This is the church of Santa María de Ferreiros, which despite the name is not located in the village of Ferreiros, but in the nearby village of Mirallos. Like many churches in Spain, it is surrounded by the parish graveyard, which you can see here with tombs sometimes layered two or three high. Unlike most churches in Spain, however, this one was moved in the 18th century. It was originally part of a priory of the Knights Hospitaller, located in the nearby village of Eirexe, before it was moved stone by stone to become the parish church of Ferreiros and Mirallos. Apparently one village got the name, and the other the actual building.
