Camino Photo of the Day: Onwards to Carrión de los Condes!
Once you leave Frómista, it’s a short day of 18.5 km to Carrión de los Condes. Much of the route is along the highway, which is never fun, and to me at least it seems a lot longer than the physical distance would suggest. Fortunately, there’s an alternate route: it’s marginally longer but a whole lot more pleasant. Whichever way you take, it’s absolutely vital that you spend the night in Carrión de los Condes. It’s one of the choke-points on the Camino, and probably the majority of pilgrims stay here.
Why? Because the close-knit villages of days past have now come to an end. After Carrión de los Condes, it’s 17.5 km to the next village – probably close to five hours without a place to get food or drink and with very little shade. Our challenge on this Camino was not the heat, though, it was the rain. And more specifically the flooding…
