Camino Photo of the Day: Santiago in Roncesvalles

After dinner, I attended Mass at the monastic church at Roncesvalles. The Gothic chapel is beautiful, but dark and difficult to photograph, at least with the iPhone 4 I was using in 2013. Three monks chanted Vespers and the Mass in Spanish and Latin. Following the Mass, with a single light on the statue of Madonna and Child on the baldachin of the altar, the monks came down from the sanctuary into the nave and faced the altar. They chanted the Regina cæli, and it was wonderful: deep as the ocean and majestic as mountains. Not bad for three old monks!

The photo, the best of those I could capture in the church, is the side altar of Santiago.
