Camino Photo of the Day: the Café Iruña

The Café Iruña anchors the northern side of the Plaza del Castillo. It’s exterior is colourful and festive, while the interior shines in full 19th century splendour. It is “a gilded ghost of the 19th century, vast polished mirrors affixed to its walls, Arabesque pillars rising to ornate ceiling, black-and-white tiled floor scuffed by decades of chair-legs scraping backwards.” (source) Ernest Hemmingway hung out here, particularly in the bar. In fact, after he left Pamplona, the owner had a full-sized bronze statue of Hemmingway installed in the author’s customary spot.
