Camino Photo of the Day: the Cathedral of Santo Domingo de la Calzada… and Roderick
After visiting the saint (and the chickens), and before we head out to find lunch, we pause a moment in the square and look back at the cathedral itself. In the square, we are accosted by an expatriate Englishman named Roderick. “Accosted” is perhaps too strong a word. Detained? Engaged in conversation? In any case, he had clearly been living in Spain for many years. We spoke some moments, and he recited a poem for us. It was ostensibly about his granddaughter, who he called “Stardust”, but it was really about the Way – not just the Camino but also our pilgrimage to our heavenly homeland. I love these simple and lovely encounters on the Way.
