Camino Photo of the Day: the Meseta Blues (and Greens)

This. This is the Meseta. Or a great deal of it, anyway. For a couple of weeks, the Camino crosses this great central Spanish plateau, home of endless fields of grain. Many pilgrims these days choose to skip some or all of the Meseta, but I think this is a mistake. It’s flat. It’s boring. It’s empty. It’s lonely. Yes, the Meseta can be all of these things. But it’s also beautiful. And it’s the best place for long uninterrupted hours of quiet contemplation as you walk. It is, I think, a necessary part of the Camino experience. You will meet God on the Meseta.

But I get it. Everybody walks their own Camino. If you don’t want to walk this portion, then don’t. But first, ask yourself what it is that you fear here.
