Camino Photo of the Day: the Streets of Conques
After exploring for a while, I left the abbey church to see the village of Conques and to find some lunch. This is the view from the church doors. This village is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval villages I visited. And unlike some others on the Camino, this was not a museum like Colonial Williamsburg for example, but an actual village. It’s definitely a pilgrim and tourist town – as it has been for more than a thousand years – but it also feels alive, like a proper town. I could easily live here the rest of my life. I quickly ran into Ávila, and we explored together and hit a boulangerie for some walking food. Ávila was also impressed by the place, although she did refer to it as “Medieval Disneyland”.
