Half a Year On

Yesterday, Francine posted some very good ruminations on her blog about her time on the Camino.

She was far more eloquent than I on the experience, and particularly the post-Camino experience.

Honestly, after more than half a year, I’m still trying to process it. I haven’t even been able to post and catalogue all my photos yet – although I’ve finally gotten to the point where most of them are up. Every time I look at them, I get homesick for the Camino.

It was a joyful, purpose-filled time full of wonder and friendship.

It was both the deepest, and most fun experience of my life.

Hard to top that. Hard to walk away from that. Even harder to live like that every day in the so-called real world.

    Thom,
    What a nice surprise !
As things go, it seems that in my parish alone, we have at least 6 members that are looking forward do the French Way this summer.
I’m still putting in the milage in hopes that I can figure a way to get off form work to get out there also.

I’m eager to see the photos that Francine and you shot out there. The photos and any other comments that you can recall about the Camino would be great. Reviewing your pictures must bring a flood of memories to mind, and reminders of aches and pains – your own cross to bear.

    Thanks Again for the posting.

    Thom and Francine,

Just a quick question regarding the things in your pack.

What things to did you find essential and what could you do with out lugging around …

    Packing considerations…
    1. No cotton of any kind, top nor bottom. All synthetics.
    2. I did the entire trek in Tevas. Boots may not be the best idea. Lighter is better, and Tevas work wonderfully (easy to wash, rain is no issue, stable and a great tan line).
    3. Buy an ultra light backpack with no frame. The lighter you go, the better off your feet, ankles, knees, back and shoulders will be.
    4. Buy your pharmacy needs in Spain. Pharmacies are everywhere.
