Hospitalera: Á Logroño!
Morning brought adventures for these two tiny hospitaleras
Date: 31 August 2023
Place: Madrid y Logroño
The night proved a bit noisy and both Becky and I both had done sleep challenges. But we got up at 6:30am and packed up. We were out by 7:30 and to the bus station by 8:10 having our breakfast.
The lovely inn keeper gave us a transit pass with fares for two. Win! But holy platos Batman! All those stairs with our massive suitcases (They are both about 70 liters) and backpacks + ukulele! Luckily there are also a lot of elevators and escalators. I did not bring my uke. I brought my kazoo. It’s much lighter.
When we arrived at the donativo in Logroño where we will serve. It’s a good thing we took the later bus as we could not figure out how to get in. But we did. And we had a chance to meet all of the pilgrims. A mother and daughter from Croatia, a couple from Verona (her name is Franca and we bonded), Germans, Argentinians, French , and US pilgrims all.
We learned two important things right off.
- They had to shut a dormitory since early July because of bedbugs.
- The seminarians are in Pamplona now for school.
I was sad about the seminarians until Marta went on a rant about the messes they made. Ok then. Good to know. Note to self: avoid Logroño service in summer. Avoid Marta’s rants… and pasta. Marta and her husband are the outgoing crew.
There’s a young man from Argentina here, recovering from an appendectomy. He will be here until the doctor clears him. He is supposed to help. He knows a little English.
Oh! We have wi-fi! The advantages of a big city parroquial.
The kitchen is big. We really like our fellow hospitalero, Augustin. I will try to get a selfie.
