One Year Ago: Starting my Pilgrimage
One year ago today, Easter Sunday it was, I boarded a plane at SeaTac International Airport and flew to Spain.
My Easter dinner was at O’Hare in Chicago. Of course it Chicago-style pizza! From here, I took an overnight flight, and arrived on another continent a day later.
Yesterday we saw Walking the Camino, a documentary, at The Grand Cinema. It was my second time and Francine’s first. I was struck again by how faithful it was to the spirit of the Camino de Santiago.
Although it tells the stories of six specific pilgrims, both Francine and I found echoes of our own experiences in theirs. Parts of it were just like being there, on the Way again.
And for the second time, I cried at the opening scene, where one of the pilgrims arrives at the square in front of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
Immediately afterwards, we walked around Snake Lake and reminisced and planned in the glorious afternoon greenery, stomping through the mud up and down hill.
Total walking yesterday was a paltry 6 kilometers.
