The mad dash and a nap on the train – this is how we go
Flight delays. More flight delays an that left less than an hour to get from departing out last flight at Barajas to our connecting train in Atocha.
Decisions made before we left (regarding checking trekking poles and knives) allowed us to get to our train bound for Pamplona on time.
Originally we had about two and a half hours to get from plane to train which was doable. But meteorological events have a way of blowing hopes and dreams apart like dandelion fluff.
It was a good thing I talked Thom into buying our questionable items (trekking poles and Opinel) in St Jean upon arrival. So yeah, we didn’t check anything and that was our saving grace. We made it to our very expensive and non refundable train with about 15 minutes to spare. Thom and I got on the Renfe Circiados as the doors were closing. They run fairly often but the train takes 30 minutes from the airport to Atocha terminus. With delays we had about an hour to catch our final train.
By the skin of our teeth, we made it. It was nerve wracking.
I’m looking a lot like cat barf right now.
